Lets Reinstall Windows XP - Part 1

Everyone likes that new computer feel. Well, reinstalling is a way to get that new computer feel, without having to buy a new computer.

Reinstalling your operating system really is not horribly difficult. In the past few years there have been some great advances with computers that make reinstalling easier than ever. To help out, we have created a start to finish guide to reinstall your computer. While this is not the only way to reinstall, we suggest following these steps to maximize the efficiency of your computer as well as making it easier to reinstall your OS in the future.

Make sure that you unplug your network cord. Windows XP is not secure until you get the Service Packs installed.

The first step in reinstalling your computer is to put the CD in the CD drive. Next restart your computer. As long as your computer is set to boot from the CDROM before the hard drive, you should get a screen asking you to boot from CD (Figure 1), press a key, and wait for the computer to begin the installation process.

Next, you will have a screen (Figure 2) that says 'Welcome to Setup'. Hit enter to continue. You will then be prompted to accept the license agreement (Figure 3) press the F8 key.

Ok, now onto something a bit more interesting. The next item is to choose your partition. First, if you have already partitioned your hard drive, or if there are multiple partitions, choose the one that your current version of windows is installed on (Usually C:\). (If you have a screen asking if you want to try and recover from an existing installation, choose the no option. Our goal is reinstall). If this is your first time running through our installation guide, chances are you have one partition on your hard drive. Warning! This is your last chance, if you go any farther, you will lose all data. Select that partition and delete it (You will have 3 chances to stop).

Then you will have 'Unpartitioned space' listed (Figure 4). Select it with the arrow keys, and enter 'C'. The next screen will ask you for size. We suggest that you enter 10000 mb and hit enter (Figure 5). The select your newly created partition and hit enter (Figure 6). The next screen will ask you for formatting options. Choose NTFS (Figure 7).

Setup will now begin format and begin the installation. This will take some time, so go ahead and make a bag of popcorn, come back in 15 minutes and then we will go onto part 2.

Now onto Part 2
